Excited for Ecuador!!
Guys, I cannot believe it has been a month since I got home. It seems like it was yesterday that I was packing my bags to embark on the trip of a life time. Now, its just a memory. But I like to look at it like one door had to close for another one to open. With that being said, I believe my next adventure is going to be Ecuador!
Between May 22nd and June 5th, my university (UNC-Wilmington) is offering a faulty-led trip to Quito, Ecuador where I would be able to fulfill my field-research credits. This trip, emphasizing the importance of terrestrial, Neotropical ecosystems, will provide me with an introduction to the structure, function, and biological diversity of this beautiful country. This course is focused on a two-week, hand-on experience in the lower montane rainforest at the new Wildsumaco Biological Station (a partnership between UNCW and Francis Marion University) on the slope of the Sumaco Volcano. This area is one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet and I believe it is the perfect way to incorporate my knowledge into the research project in the natural laboratory.
I have also created a GoFundMe campaign (Summer Research in Ecuador by Marilyn Rocco) with the hopes of getting some donations to help me with the cost--so pass along the news!
